Walk by the Indian Ocean: Whitfords Nodes Park

Whitfords Nodes Park

Whitfords Nodes Park, also known as Hillarys Beach Park, is a beautiful, grassy beachside park by the Indian Ocean.  The park is very popular with families with young children because of its large shaded playground that includes swings, climbing units, sand play, nature play, and other play elements.

For walkers and joggers, you may choose to walk or jog on the huge open grassed field, the concrete paths run all around the park, the shared-path closer to the beach, or try out the Whitfords Nodes Health and Wellbeing Hub exercise stairway or the 3 different interconnecting trails within the Whitfords Nodes Health and Wellbeing Hub.

All 3 trails, of lengths between 700m to 1.2km, are of different degrees of difficulty because of the elevation.  The sealed trails are linked to 2 lookout points within the Whitfords Nodes Health and Wellbeing Hub.  At these 2 lookouts, you will be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, the coastline, Hillary’s Boat Harbour, and Whitfords Nodes Park.  The spectacular views are your motivation to exercise.

The 22m tall exercise stairway is an interesting idea adapting from the popular Jacob’s Ladder in Perth’s Kings Park.  The exercise stairway was opened in Sep 2020 and was called “Jacob’s Ladder of the North”.

The Jacob’s Ladder in Kings Park has 242 steps and needs reasonable fitness to climb.

The Whitfords Nodes exercise stairway has 145 2.2m-wide steps and has benches along the way for climbers to stop and rest.  There are also helpful signs to let climbers know how many steps there are still to go to get to the top or the bottom.  This makes it a lot easier for climbers.

The park has lots of trees providing shade, ample free parking, undercover picnic tables and benches, barbecues, a water fountain, public toilet, beach access, and outdoor fitness equipment.

Hillarys Dog Beach and Pinnaroo Point

Still have a lot of energy and want to walk or jog more?  Continue walking or jogging on the beachside shared path in the northward direction towards Hillarys Dog Beach and Pinnaroo Point.

The distance between Whitfords Nodes Park and Hillarys Dog Beach is around 1.4km one-way.  Pinnaroo Point is further and is around 2km from Whitfords Nodes Park.

Hillarys Dog Beach is a stretch of coastline dedicated to the exercising of dogs.  There is a public toilet and ample free parking is available for the convenience of visitors and dog owners.

Pinnaroo Point is an excellent spot for family outings with beach access, a public toilet, a playground, and undercover picnic tables and benches.  Ample free parking is available too.
