West Coast Drive
The 6km West Coast Drive by the Indian Ocean coast stretches from Sorrento Beach in the north to Trigg Beach in the south.
West Coast Drive runs through 5 adjacent coastal suburbs – Sorrento, Marmion, Watermans Bay, North Beach, and Trigg.
Only a 25-minute drive from Perth CBD, the scenic coastal walking paths by West Coast Drive is a popular walking/jogging destination for locals and visitors. The walking paths are generally on high ground well above sea level thus offering unblocked distant views of the beautiful Indian Ocean, as well as the reef, the coastal rock formations, and beach activities.
The one-way distance between Watermans Bay playground and Mettam’s Pool is approximately 2km. It is a good distance for a 30-minute morning or evening walk. You will enjoy the ocean views and the ocean breeze. There is ample roadside parking along West Coast Drive.
Watermans Bay playground
This playground is at a perfect spot – below the road level away from road traffic and above the reef area in a small grassed area. The benches make this small area a perfect location for a lunch or coffee break, or a family picnic outing for kids to play in the playground.
You may walk on the walking paths alongside West Coast Drive or at a level below West Coast Drive beside the playground.
Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre
Continue walking from the playground in the southern direction and you will come across several white buildings situated between West Coast Drive and the Indian Ocean.
The buildings are where the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre of the University of Western Australia (UWA) Oceans Institute is located. It is where marine scientists conduct their research and provide innovative solutions in marine sciences.
