Champion Lakes: Dragon Boat Race in progress in the 2,000m international standard 8-lane rowing course purpose-built for competition

Walk by The Water: The Champion Lakes, Perth

Champion Lakes is the name of a suburb in Perth, in the City of Armadale.  The suburb was originally part of the Camillo suburb.  When Champion Lakes Regatta Centre was built, the area around Champion Lakes was redesignated the new suburb.

The Lake

Champion Lakes is 55-hectare in size and has a 5km sealed pathway that encircles the lake for walking, jogging, and cycling.  Noticeably there are very few tall trees around the lake to provide shade.  Consequently, you will find walking or jogging around the lake challenging on a hot day.

There are a few designated swimming areas for family outings.  You will find a well-designed children’s play area, an amphitheatre, and an Aboriginal Interpretive Centre near the Lake Road entrance to the Lake.

Many radio miniature boat sailing hobbyists use Champion Lakes for their sailing enjoyment, usually during weekends.  Want to discover more about radio sailing?  Check out Perth Radio Sailing Club.

Champion Lakes Regatta Centre

The water-based sports facility Champion Lakes Regatta Centre is purpose-built for community, state, national, and international sports competitions including rowing, canoeing, dragon boating, and triathlon events.

A 2,000m international standard 8-lane rowing course, a warm-up lake in parallel with the rowing course, function rooms, boat sheds, and water-based sports storage area can be found here.

Occasionally you may see a water-based sports team practising rowing, canoeing, dragon boating on the lake.  If you are lucky, you may even see a water-based sports competition in progress.
