Walk by the Waters: The waterfront of Zhuhai 珠海, China

Zhuhai 珠海

Zhuhai is a city of around 2.5 million people south of Guangdong Province. The city got its name, which means Pearl (珠) and Sea (海), from being at the mouth of the Pearl River 珠江 meeting the South China Sea 南中国海.   Zhuhai is a beautiful city because of its long coastline and its 262 large and small islands.

The 55km long Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge 港珠澳大桥, the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge, links Zhuhai with Macau 澳门 and Hong Kong and makes Zhuhai a transportation hub providing easy access for mainland China visitors to enter into Macau and Hong Kong by land transport.  Zhuhai’s marine resorts, theme parks, beautiful coastline, and interesting tourist sites also make the city an interesting destination.

Being part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area 粤港澳大湾区 on the western shore just north of Macau, Zhuhai looks set to be on a rapid development path, like the rest of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area cities such as Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou 广州, Foshan 佛山, Shenzhen 深圳, and Dongguan 东莞.

The Walk – Zhuhai Fisher Girl Statue 珠海渔女雕像 and Haibin Park 海滨公园

Zhuhai’s iconic landmark Fisher Girl Statue is located off the shore of Xianglu Bay 香炉湾.  The 8.7m tall statue of the fisher Girl wears a pearl around her neck and holds up a huge pearl in both hands as if to shine light to the world.  The sculpture is the work of Chinese sculptor Pan He 潘鹤.

Adjacent to Xianglu Bay is Haibin Park 海滨公园, a popular family-friendly park.  Not far from Haibin Park is Jingshan Park 景山公园 where visitors can take the Jingshan Ropeway 景山索道 to Jingshan 景山 hilltop to have the best panoramic views of Xianglu Bay and Zhuhai, as well as Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and Macau.

The one-way distance from Zhuhai Fisher Girl Statue along the coastal walking paths, via Haibin Park, to the Jingshan Ropeway ticket office is approximately 1.5 km.
