Walk by the Waters: Sydney Royal Botanic Garden Foreshore

Sydney Royal Botanic Garden

The 30-hectare (0.3-square-km) iconic Sydney Royal Botanic Garden, a tranquil retreat and green sanctuary of well-maintained, landscaped gardens within 1 km of Sydney CBD, is a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike. The free-entry garden is open every day of the year from early morning to evening, but the opening times change seasonally throughout the year.

The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney foreshore offers spectacular views of Sydney Harbour, Sydney Opera House, and Harbour Bridge over water.

Notably, the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney is located right next to Sydney Opera House, making it best for visitors to enter the garden through the gate at Sydney Opera House, one of its 13 entrance gates.

The Walk

Assuming you enter the Sydney Royal Botanic Garden through the gate at Sydney Opera House, taking a walk on the foreshore walking paths in the garden allows you to enjoy the Sydney Harbour water views, landscaped garden views, Sydney city skyline, Sydney Opera House, and Sydney Harbour Bridge, all at the same time.

The one-way distance on the foreshore walking paths from Sydney Opera House to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair, a very popular lookout point in the Sydney Royal Botanic Garden, is approximately 1.5 km.
