Walk by the Waters: Saltwater National Park, New South Wales Australia

Saltwater National Park

A small coastal reserve surrounded by rainforest, Saltwater National Park is about a 25-minute drive east of Taree on the Barrington Coast 4-hour drive north of Sydney.

Saltwater National Park is bordered by Khappinghat Creek in the south.  Khappinghat Creek flows out to the Coral Sea of the Pacific Ocean at Saltwater Beach, which is a popular surfing and fishing spot.  Shielded from the ocean waves by Saltwater Beach, Saltwater Lagoon is a popular swimming spot in the summer months.

Saltwater headland, just north of Saltwater Lagoon, has an interesting headland walking track where walkers can take a short, leisurely 300 m stroll through the thick rainforest to reach the headland lookout at the end of the track.  The lookout has magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean, Saltwater Beach, and Khappinghat Creek river mouth, and is a great place to go whale watching.

Wallabi Beach is another great surfing beach north of Saltwater headland.  Wallabi Beach and Saltwater Beach are separated by Saltwater headland.

Saltwater National Park has many picnic spots adjacent to Khappinghat Creek, Wallabi Beach, and Saltwater Beach.

The Walk

Walk in the flat open area adjacent to Khappinghat Creek, Saltwater Lagoon, Saltwater Beach, and Wallabi Beach, and stop at the lookout platforms to enjoy the views.  Do not miss the Saltwater headland walking track to reach the headland lookout at the end of the track.
