Walk by the Waters: Gardens By The Bay, Singapore

Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay, built on reclaimed land, is a 101-hectare (1 square km) nature park with attractions like the Floral Fantasy, Supertree Grove, Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, waterfront parks, and a network of walking and cycling trails.

Floral Fantasy, an indoor garden that spans 1,500 square meters and maintains a cool 23-25°C, combines floral artistry, fantasy-themed décor, lighting, digital art, mist effects, and curated soundscapes to create a fantasy-like indoor journey through flowers, art, and technology that are popular with families, photographers, and nature lovers.

Supertree Grove refers to 18 giant vertical gardens, each up to 50m tall, designed to mimic real trees. Many of these supertrees collect rainwater, generate solar power, and act as air exhaust systems for the nearby Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories.

Covered by 3,332 glass panels, with a volume equivalent to 75 Olympic-sized swimming pools, Flower Dome holds the Guinness World Record for the largest glass greenhouse. Flower Dome showcases plants from around the world with themed gardens like the Succulent Garden, South African Garden, and Australian Garden, as well as vibrant seasonal floral exhibitions.

Cloud Forest features a 35-meter-tall waterfall, one of the tallest indoor waterfalls in the world, and a vertical garden covered in orchids, ferns, and mosses in a cool, misty atmosphere that mimics tropical highland climates. Visitors ascend via elevator and descend through spiralling walkways as they enjoy the immersive experience of nature blending with interactive digital art and conservation storytelling.

The Walk – Dragonfly Lake

Dragonfly Lake is located near Foral Fantasy and Supertree Grove and is a 5-minute walk from Bayfront Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) Station. The lake is designed to mimic natural wetland ecosystems, acts as a natural filtration system for water from the surrounding catchment, and supports biodiversity, including fish, amphibians, and migratory birds.

The boardwalk around the lake offers great close-up views of the lake, the surrounding greenery, and the aquatic plants.

The boardwalks and the walking trails around Dragonfly Lake are a great destination for a relaxing early morning or late afternoon stroll in hot and humid Singapore weather.
