East Coast Park
The 185-hectare East Coast Park, which has a 15 km long coastline with many swimming beaches, is the largest in Singapore, an island nation. Opened in the 1970s, it is situated entirely on reclaimed land.
As the name suggests, East Coast Park is in the eastern part of Singapore. It is divided into 8 areas, labeled A to H, extending eastwards. Area A begins right next to Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant, while Area H sits beside the National Service Resort & Country Club. Areas A, G, and H at the edges of East Coast Park are usually less crowded. The rest of the East Coast Park Areas, B to F, are more crowded, especially on weekends.
Two of the most popular dining destinations in East Coast Park are East Coast Seafood Centre, with 8 restaurants serving seafood, and East Coast Lagoon Food Centre, a large hawker centre with 60 stalls and seating for 1200. The other popular dining venues in East Coast Park can be found at Parkland Green, Marine Cove, and Raintree Cove.
The 250m-long Bedok Jetty, the longest fishing jetty in Singapore, is in East Coast Park.
East Coast Park has become more accessible since the operational start of 6 new Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations: Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap and Bayshore stations. East Coast Park is within a 15-minute walk from these 6 stations through underpasses linked to the park. These 4 stations are all within a 30-minute train ride from Singapore CBD.
The Walk
If you don’t drive and travel on MRT trains, Siglap MRT Station is within 500 m from East Coast Park through an underpass link. Therefore, you may start your walk from Siglap MRT Station and walk southeast along Siglap Link, then on a footpath connecting to an underpass link to get to East Coast Park.
Once at the park, you will first arrive at East Coast Lagoon, which is the site of Singapore Wake Park. East Coast Lagoon Food Village is right next to Singapore Wake Park. There are signboards with vicinity maps to show your location and the distance to various popular destinations in the park. From East Coast Lagoon Food Village, if you walk in the eastern direction on the pedestrian and bicycle shared paths alongside the beach, you will walk past KPMG Wellness Garden and arrive at Siglap Canal Lookout Deck after around 30 minutes.
The one-way distance between East Coast Lagoon Food Village and Siglap Canal Lookout Deck is approximately 2 km.
If you want to avoid the hot and humid Singapore weather, early mornings and evenings are the best times to take this walk.
