East Coast Park
The 185-hectare East Coast Park, which has a 15 km long coastline with many swimming beaches, is the largest in Singapore, an island nation.
Notably, East Coast Park, opened in the 1970s, is wholly on reclaimed land.
As the name suggests, East Coast Park is in the eastern part of Singapore and is divided into 8 areas, A to H, and extends in the eastern direction from A to H. East Coast Park Area A starts right next to Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant and East Coast Park Area H is located right next to National Service Resort & Country Club.
Areas A, G, and H at the edges of East Coast Park, are usually less crowded. The rest of the East Coast Park Areas B to F are more crowded, especially during weekends.
Two of the most popular dining destinations in East Coast Park are East Coast Seafood Centre, with 8 restaurants serving seafood, and East Coast Lagoon Food Centre, a large hawker centre with 60 stalls and seating for 1200. The other popular dining venues in East Coast Park can be found at Parkland Green, Marine Cove, and Raintree Cove
The 250m-long Bedok Jetty, the longest fishing jetty in Singapore, is in East Coast Park.
East Coast Park has become more accessible since the operational start of 4 new Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations -Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, and Marine Terrace stations. East Coast Park is within a 15-minute walk from these 4 stations through underpasses linked to the park. These 4 stations are all within a 30-minute train ride from Singapore CBD.
The Walk
If you don’t drive and travel on MRT trains, Marine Terrace station is within 500 m from East Coast Park either through an underpass link or an overhead pedestrian bridge.
Therefore, you may start your walk from Marine Terrace station and walk southeast towards the sea through Marine Terrace housing estate. The underpass link to East Coast Park is near Apartment Block 18 and the overhead pedestrian bridge to reach East Coast Park is near Apartment Block 3.
Once at the park, you may walk on walking paths in either southwest or northeast directions along the beach. There are signboards with vicinity maps to show your location and distance of various popular destinations in the park.
If you want to avoid the hot and humid Singapore weather, early mornings and evenings are the best times to take this walk.
