Auckland Botanic Gardens
Auckland Botanic Gardens, located in the North Island of New Zealand, is approximately 25km, or a 35-minute drive, southeast of Auckland city centre, in Auckland’s suburb of Manurewa.
Relatively young and not huge compared to many other botanic gardens, the 64 hectares, or 0.64-square-km, Auckland Botanic Gardens was first opened to the public in 1982. Here visitors will find more than 10,000 plants of which many are self-sustaining and require minimal intervention in Auckland’s mild South Pacific climate without pesticides.
Like many other botanic gardens around the world, entry to Auckland Botanic Gardens is free.
Auckland Botanic Gardens is very compact and has many themed gardens linked by many relatively flat walking paths. There are 2 small connecting lakes – Upper Lake and Lower Lake, and many small interconnecting streams located all around the botanic gardens.
