The beautiful Rockingham Foreshore shoreline, viewed from Palm Beach Jetty

Walk by the Indian Ocean: Rockingham Foreshore

Rockingham foreshore is within the Rockingham city around 45 km (28 miles) southwest of the Perth CBD.

The Revitalised Rockingham Foreshore

The very vibrant revitalised Rockingham Foreshore which opened in September 2019, has made the beach and the foreshore areas more accessible for the enjoyment of both the locals and the visitors.

The focal point is Beach Plaza where timber boardwalk and colourful seating areas are drawing huge crowds during the summer weekends.  Beach Plaza has become a popular venue to meet, play, relax, and watch the beach activities and the magnificent Indian Ocean.

For walkers and joggers, the pathways that run by the water are flat and very well-connected for a very pleasant and enjoyable walk and jog.

Palm Beach Pathway

One recommended walking route is the pathway that runs alongside Palm Beach between Beach Plaza and Hymus Street.  Palm Beach is unique in that it is a north-facing beach and is shielded by Point Peron and Garden Island.  Being protected from the wind and waves, the calm water is a popular boat mooring point.

On this route, you will walk or jog past Val Street Jetty, Palm Beach Jetty, and Palm Beach Boat Ramp.  Val Street Jetty is located just next to Beach Plaza.  Palm Beach Jetty is located opposite Fisher Street and is around 700 m (0.4 miles) from Val Street Jetty.  Try to walk to the end of these two 100m-length jetties and you get to see the beautiful Rockingham shoreline from over the water.

The one-way distance on the pathway between Beach Plaza and Hymus Street is about 1.6 km (1 mile).

Rockingham Beach Pathway

Alternatively, another recommended walking route is the pathway that runs alongside Rockingham Beach between Beach Plaza and Naval Memorial Reserve.

The one-way distance on the pathway between Beach Plaza and Naval Memorial Reserve is about 2.1 km (1.3 miles).  If you are reasonably fit, try to walk from Beach Plaza to Naval Memorial Reserve and return.  You will walk past 5 adjacent beachfront shady parks: Churchill Park, Bell Park, Herbert Park, Emerald Park, Phoebe Hymus Park before reaching Naval Memorial Reserve.

Ample roadside carparks are available along Palm Beach and Rockingham Beach pathways so you can choose where to start and how far you want to walk.
