Neil McDougall Park
The centrally located Neil McDougall Park in the suburb of Como is only a 15-minute drive from Perth CBD.
Neil McDougall Park is named after Neil McDougall, who owned a daily farm with his wife Hazel on the land where the park now occupies. Neil and Hazel McDougall sold the land to the City of South Perth. Today, the farmhouse where they lived has been converted to an Arts and Crafts Centre. Outside the Arts and Crafts Centre, there is a community garden that grows organic fruits and vegetables.
In the park, there are many trees providing plenty of shaded areas and several wide open spaces for gatherings, celebrations, and community events. The southwest corner of the park is set aside as an amphitheatre separated by a bank of large trees.
The northern part of the park features a lake with a small island wildlife refuge and a well-maintained concrete lakeside walkway with exercise equipment, attracting fitness and nature enthusiasts, and a diverse range of other visitors.
The Walk
If you come by car, you may park your vehicle at on‐street parking along Ley and Henley Streets.
You may walk around the lake on the level concrete walkway to enjoy close-up views of the birds on the small island wildlife refuge. The around-the-lake walk on the concrete walkway is approximately 1 km.
