Lake Gwelup Regional Open Space
Lake Gwelup is a seasonal lake located within the Perth suburb of Gwelup, a 17-minute drive north of Perth CBD. The winter months are the best months to view Lake Gwelup when the lake water levels are at their highest levels.
Lake Gwelup Regional Open Space, or Lake Gwelup Reserve, which includes Lake Gwelup, is the open space, the natural bushland, and the walking trails around Lake Gwelup.
The Lake Gwelup walk
The concreted walking paths on the west side of Lake Gwelup are the best walking trails in Lake Gwelup Regional Open Space if you want to have the best water views and be close to the water. As well, you can walk on the boardwalk that leads to a viewing platform above Lake Gwelup, on the southwest side of the lake.
The closest car park is off Huntriss Road, just opposite Karrinyup Reserve, and is next to a children’s playground and the tennis courts.
If you feel energised, you may continue to walk the signed-posted 3.9-km loop trail around Lake Gwelup. Some of the walking trails on the north side of Lake Gwelup may be gravel trails in bushland setting further away from Lake Gwelup therefore you do not have water views.
