Walk by Canning River: Deep Water Point Reserve <-> Canning Bridge

Deep Water Point Reserve

Deep Water Point Reserve is located along The Esplanade by Canning River in the suburb of Mount Pleasant, a 20-minute drive south of Perth CBD.

The reserve is in the picturesque Deep Water Point with views of Salter Point foreshore across Canning River, and Canning Bridge in the north, and Mount Henry Bridge in the south over Canning River.  Deep Water Point is a popular recreational spot, particularly for fishing and water skiing.

The popular reserve has lawned picnic areas under majestic trees and BBQ facilities, a boat ramp, a swimming jetty, a nice beach area, accessible parking, toilet facilities, kids’ favourite play spaces, and the crowd-drawing waterfront Dôme Café.

From Deep Water Point Reserve, Canning Bridge is approximately an easy walk 1.5 km away in the northern direction on the shared path.

The flat shared cycle and walk path along The Esplanade and by Canning River enables users to enjoy the unblocked breathtaking waterfront views while walking, jogging, or cycling.

City of Melville’s public art collection

The mosaic tiles public artwork by Danka Scholtz von Lorenz are embedded on the shared path.  Try to find them.  They are part of the City of Melville’s public art collection.  For more information on the City of Melville’s public art collection, check out the webpage Canning-Bridge-Art-Trail-Guide.pdf (melvillecity.com.au).

The area just south of Canning Bridge is a popular locality for community water sports.  The clubhouses of many rowing clubs such as Swan River Rowing Club, Murdoch University Rowing Club, and Perth Rowing Club are located here.
