Burswood Peninsula
Surrounded by the Swan River on the east, north, and west, the 285 hectares Burswood Peninsula is where Crown Perth, Optus Stadium, The Camfield, Burswood Park, Belmont Park Racecourse, and the State Tennis Centre are located.
Annually millions of local, national, and international visitors are drawn to Burswood Peninsula to enjoy sporting, entertainment, and recreation activities in venues such as Crown Perth, Optus Stadium, Burswood Park, and Belmont Park Racecourse.
Only about 3 km from Perth CBD, Burswood Peninsula is connected to East Perth and Perth CBD via Matagarup Bridge which is a pedestrian bridge, and Windan Bridge which is a car (Graham Farmer Freeway), rail, and pedestrian bridge.
Burswood Park Public Open Space
Burswood Park Public Open Space is the area between Optus Stadium and Crown Towers that was previously the Burswood Park Golf Course. In April 2013, Burswood Park Golf Course was closed to give way to the 60,000-seat, world-class, multi-purpose Optus Stadium.
Matagarup Zip+Climb
Zip+Climb is a new experience that started in Dec 2021 that includes climbing up Matagarup Bridge and then riding a 400m long zip-line (or flying fox) from Matagarup Bridge.
Matagarup Bridge was not designed for easy walking up the bridge’s main arch structure. The 314-step climb up to the 72m high Skyview Glass Platform involves some climbing, crawling, and squeezing through tight spaces. It is the same bridge access taken by the bridge technicians and maintenance crews.
The Matagarup Bridge Zip-Line Launch Platform is lower than the Skyview Glass Platform at 35m above the Swan River and the Zip-Line landing station is in Burswood Park Public Open Space.
Check out information about Zip+Climb on the Zip+Climb website.
Burswood Park Public Open Space Walk
The public open space has 2 very distinct areas separated by Camfield Drive.
The first area, which is between Camfield Drive and the Swan River, has pedestrian pathways and cycleways extended from riverside pathways. As well, there are lighting and seating for evening or night walk or jogging. In addition, the well-landscaped garden and the unnamed small lakes truly shape the look and feel of the area. Visitors can walk, jog, have a picnic, or just relax and enjoy the spectacular Perth city views in this part of the open space. The zip-line landing station is in this part of the Burswood Park Public Open Space.
The second area on the other side of Camfield Drive, away from the Swan River, however, is parkland with an undulating landscape. Most of this area does not have lighting, seating, and accessible pathways, except for a pedestrian walk path, which has lighting and seating, that links Optus Stadium to Crown Towers and Crown Theatre. Consequently, because of potential after-dark hazards, visitors are advised to visit this part of the open space during daylight hours only. A flat open area in this part of the open space is used for helicopter landings.
These 2 distinct areas of Burswood Park Public Open Space provide very different walking experiences.
