Denham
Denham, an 8.5-hour drive northwest of Perth or 4 hours if you drive northwest from Geraldton, is the administrative town for the Shire of Shark Bay. At the 2016 census, Denham had a population of 754.
Interestingly, Denham is the westernmost town in Australia. Located on the western shore of Peron Peninsula in the UNESCO Shark Bay World Heritage Area, Denham is within Western Australia’s 1,100 km breathtaking Coral Coast which stretches from Cervantes, a 2-hour drive north of Perth, to the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef.
Denham is primarily a stopover to stock up food and supplies for visitors travelling in the Shark Bay area, including Monkey Mia, Dirk Hartog Island, and Francis Peron National Park.
Actually, Denham is quite gorgeous and relaxing and has beautiful beaches. Denham Recreational Jetty is popular for local recreational fishing, boating, and tourism activities. On the other side of the jetty, there is a small swimming beach with a pontoon to jump off in the clear blue water.
If you don’t want to stay in RAC Monkey Mia Resort, Denham offers alternative accommodation from resorts and hotels to campsites and tourist parks. Try to stay in a beachfront accommodation on Knight Terrace where you can wake up to beautiful ocean breezes.
The Walk
Take a walk on the 1.5 km-long Knight Terrace on the Denham foreshore. And don’t forget to stop at Denham Recreational Jetty where you can enjoy watching boats and cruises arriving and leaving, and locals and visitors enjoying refreshing swimming on a warm day.
