Date of Visit: 2-3 Feb 20
Koh Tao, or Turtle Island (Koh means island in Thai), is located on the east side of the Surat Thani coastline. Koh Tao is a popular year-round diving destination for divers. There are many diving shops and more young visitors here.
For non-divers, beautiful beaches, picturesque sceneries, the relaxed atmosphere and lifestyle, the clear warm water will ensure you have an unforgettable holiday.
There are regular ferry services to Koh Tao. The piers are located on the Mae Haad Bay where you find government offices, police station, post office, banks, restaurants, cafes, bars and accommodations of all types and price range.
Koh Tao is very hilly but is small enough that you can walk to most towns, beaches, and bays. Distances between towns, beaches, and bays are mostly no more than 5 km.
If you have only 1 or 2 days, then it is recommended that you visit Sairee Beach and Koh Nang Yuan, at the least.
Sairee Beach
Sairee Beach is just north of Mae Haad Pier. It is the most popular and busiest beach on Koh Tao. There is a wide range of restaurants, cafes, and bars by the beach. You can choose your perfect beach spot or a cafe or a bar to relax with a drink and watch the world go by.
Koh Nang Yuan
Koh Nang Yuan is actually made up of three small islands connected by two sandbanks. It is just a 15-minutes boat ride from Koh Tao. You can hire a longtail boat from Sairee Beach to bring you to Koh Nang Yuan.
Never miss the walk up to the Koh Nang Yuan lookout! Walking up to Koh Nang Yuan’s lookout point will take you about 30 minutes. You will be awarded the amazingly stunning view of Koh Nang Yuan with the sandbanks from the lookout.
