Krabi Town
Krabi Town has a very Thai local small-town feel and atmosphere although it usually has a constant flow of tourists using Krabi Town as the base to visit other touristic attractions in the Krabi Province or transiting through Krabi Town to travel to other parts of southern Thailand. Well, during the COVID-19 pandemic when travels are restricted all around the world, the international tourist flows have stopped.
Krabi Town has a good selection of inexpensive hotels for budget travellers. Cheap street food is one of Krabi’s major draws of tourists. The local shops and street food vendors serve both the ordinary Thai locals and tourists alike.
The Crab Statue is a popular landmark of the walkable charming Krabi Town.
Crab Statue
The bronze Crab Statue at the bank of Krabi River in the Krabi Town is one of Krabi’s landmarks. From here, in the upstream direction, you can see 2 distinct mountains, the Khao Khanab Nam Mountains. These mountains have caves, where mysterious human skeletons are discovered, that you can explore by hiring a boat to bring you there.
Food Markets
The food markets near the Mud Crab Statue are the best places for cheap Thai local food. You have to try the wide variety of fresh Thai local tropical fruits, cut and packed in plastic bags, and chilled on ice.
Chao Fah Pier Food Market opens from 5pm, is a good choice for a seafood dinner or supper.
City Night Market actually opens in the day through to the night. The name of the market is a bit confusing.
Krabi Walking Street has a night market opens from 5pm selling clothing, handicrafts, souvenirs, and lots of Thai street food. The local and foreign visitors are drawn into this night market by the Thai street food and the stage performance.
