Parramatta River Foreshore
Parramatta River starts at the confluence of Darling Mills Creek and Toongabbie Creek just north of Cumberland Hospital. The river flows past Cumberland Hospital and flows through Parramatta Park and River Foreshore Reserve in Parramatta.
Parramatta River is fresh water up to the Charles Street Weir, which is located upstream just before Parramatta Wharf, approximately 30 km to the Sydney Heads. From Parramatta Wharf, the downstream river becomes gradually saltier as it is closer to the ocean.
Parramatta Wharf is the end point of the Parramatta River – Circular Quay Ferry Service. During low tide periods, ferry services stop at Rydalmere, one ferry stop before Parramatta Wharf. Passengers will complete the final part of the journey by bus.
River Foreshore Reserve, where Charles Street Weir is located, has flat walking paths alongside both river banks of Parramatta River, which are pleasant to walk to enjoy the water views.
The Walk
You may start your walk from Parramatta Wharf, assuming you arrive from Circular Quay on a Parramatta River – Circular Quay ferry.
Take one of the riverbank walking paths running alongside on both sides of the riverbank in the upstream direction to Lennox Bridge, cross the bridge over to the other side of the riverbank walking paths, and return to Parramatta Wharf.
The one-way distance between Parramatta Wharf and Lennox Bridge is approximately 750m.
