Nelson Bay
Located just inside the mouth of Port Stephens, the coastal town of Nelson Bay is the largest town in the Port Stephens area with a population of just over 6000.
Nelson Bay’s large natural harbour has made Nelson Bay the commercial centre of Port Stephens and a town with a high concentration of cafés, restaurants, entertainment and leisure offerings, and retail shops. Nelson Bay’s D’Albora Marina is visited by yachts and cruisers from around the world, and it is where visitors take dolphin and whale watching cruises and ferries to tour around Port Stephens Bay, which is within the Port Stephens Great Lakes Marine Park.
The beaches of Nelson Bay such as Little Beach, Nelson Bay Beach, Dutchmans Beach, and Bagnalls Beach are all beautiful swimming beaches sheltered within Port Stephens Bay from ocean waves.
Nelson Bay is a 1-hour drive northeast of Newcastle and a 2.5-hour drive northeast of Sydney.
The Walk: Nelson Bay Foreshore – Nelson Bay Boat Harbour <> Little Beach
Nelson Bay Boat Harbour is a popular destination for family outings for the locals and visitors. They walk on walking paths to the breakwaters, fish, enjoy a meal or a coffee break at many of the cafes and restaurants, or just sit by the foreshore park and enjoy the cool breeze and magnificent views of the marina.
Starting from here and walking on the walking paths by the waters in the eastern direction, you will walk past D’Albora Marina and then Nelson Bay Foreshore Park. Continue walking on the walking paths alongside Victoria Parade and you will walk past Nelson Bay Beach. Continue walking on Victoria Parade at the Victoria Parade/Shoal Bay Road junction for about 500m before turning onto Beach Road and the beautiful Little Beach is on the left.
Little Beach is a small beach facing northwest ideal for young children with its sheltered gentle water. The grassed area with a BBQ facility by the beach makes it a popular beach family outing or social gathering.
The one-way distance between Nelson Bay Boat Harbour and Little Beach is approximately 2 km.
